SIMAHPP 4.5 Release Notice

SIMAHPP is a decision making  tool used to simulate and assess the feasibility of hydropower projects. It is a multi-site, multi-option simulator intended to solve a wide range of problems such as determining design flow to chose appropriate hydro turbine, optimized time of operation in a year so as to maximize the hydropower and thus increasing the annual energy production, determine the energy revenue, estimate investment and related costs, determine amortization rates, Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), payback periods, and indicates the quantity of carbon emission reduction potential if the planned hydropower project is to be operational.

SIMAHPP 4.5 Professional offers much flexible simulation options and integrates a new module to conduct sensitivity analysis:

Follow up:

1. Flexible and instant calculation for all %Time ranges

The interface of SIMAHPP 4.5 simulator is provided with the capability to calculate key outputs and show corresponding project characteristics information for every %Time of operation in a year.  Each %Time of operation is related to a design flow in the flow-distribution curve (FDC).  By default, SIMAHPP calculates a %Time of operation and corresponding design flow that can maximize annual power production.   This default was the sole option in the previous SIMAHPP versions.  With the SIMAHPP 4.5 version, users can click at any %Time of operation shown in the upper table and get the modified outputs instantly.

2. Sensitivity analysis

The SIMAHPP 4.5 is now provided with a sensitivity analysis module which allows to calculate and observe the change in the calculated investment costs with a certain percentage of variation in a given parameter.   This relative output change is expressed in terms of a sensitivity index (SI), which is the ratio of output variation to parameter variation.
The parameters considered for the sensitivity analysis are the design flows and net hydraulic heads.   If multiple hydro site or scenarios are being simulated in a single run, the sensitivity analysis module takes the information related to a hydro site which is active on the Simulator window. Similar operation can be performed for each site or scenario.
